A Wise Woman's Perspective

I hope I don't embarrass my niece, Catie Burleson, by posting these words I picked up from a recent update on her blog. I'm so proud of her and know that I sure didn't have this perspective just out of college. Some days, I don't think this way now! She just graduated from Harding University and moved to the DC area in June so she could acclimate to the area while she studied for the CPA exam. She starts her new job at Price Waterhouse in October. Pray for this wise young woman who is obviously on the right track but will encounter many challenges on her life journey. Pray she continues to care for others who are struggling and trusts in The One who can handle it all.

Catie's words .... "And, more than anything, pray for all who are going through trials. As part of this whole growing up charade, I've started to step outside of myself more and see that everyone is fighting some battle, whether great or small, and that puts my own trials in perspective. A lot of the things that I think are so challenging and frustrating are really nothing, when I take a step back to see them for what they are. I'm embarrassed to even fess up to most of the things I worry about. So, slowly but surely, I want to become more patient with myself, more encouraging to others, more confident that God truly is in control, and accepting of the fact that I don't know all the answers. This extended period of change (I'm referring to graduating and leaving familiarity - specifically WalMart and Sonic - in the dust, moving out here to DC and being able to count the people that I knew here on one hand, still not starting my job for another couple of months, etc), it's all teaching me how to walk by faith, all the time. Faith in God as a lifestyle, not religion as a defense mechanism or a demographic characteristic. Frightening at first, but I'm getting the hang of it."

I took this picture of Catie a few weeks back when she was visiting her family in Destin. You go girl ... I can't wait to see what God does with your open heart and multiple talents.

  3. Now, how on earth does one so young have such insight and wisdom? Can you imagine what she will have to say when she's 50?! I had to live a lot of years to develop insight like that...No wonder you are proud of her!
